Motorola DEFY hands-on overview, First Android phone that is scratch & water resistant, dust proof

I asked Motorola at CTIA to show an overview of the Motorola Defy, an Android phone that is “lifeproof” and exclusive to T-Mobile USA. The Motorola DEFY enhanced with MOTOBLUR comes equipped with a 3.7-inch WVGA high-resolution and scratch-resistant touch screen display. The DEFY is scratch and water resistant as well as dust proof. There are two microphones that intelligently filter out background noise and amplify your voice so you don’t have to shout. It comes with a 5-megapixel camera featuring a flash, digital zoom and auto focus. The Motorola DEFY smartphone is powered by Android. Choose from thousands of applications, widgets and games on Android Market and enjoy access to Google services including Google Search, Google Maps and Gmail. Motorola DEFY with MOTOBLUR is expected to be available exclusively to T-Mobile USA customers in time for the holidays.

  9. hb0x says:

@reneeatstheused2 nah, their screens are the same size, the Defy’s design makes it looks bigger

  10. reneeatstheused2 says:

  14. kkwik16 says:

@TheCatmandude I’m a moron because im right bro? I’m just stating facts dont be a hater. Both are great OS, but iOS is more stable, and has more apps. And isn’t that what you are buying the phone for? Get lost troll!!!

  15. hurtuldinosaur says:

Have iPhone 4, getting Motorola Atrix. This because iOS has been the same for 5 years and with android you get an open, free experience. Apple needs to break out of “the box.”

  16. TheCatmandude says:

@kkwik16 You’re a fucking moron. Go back to sucking Steve Jobs’ dick.

  17. atom1cs says:

@kkwik16 The stats of the iphone and atrix batteries, were almost the same. The software is Android, it’s not shitty, it’s Linux, and Linux is not shitty, friend. iPhones use iOS, which is also Linux based. True, iOS is optimized for the hardware, but that doesn’t mean Android OS is “shitty”, it’s actually really nice, and not locked down like the iPhone is, and more customizable. Most of the same popular apps are available for iOS and for Android, not sure what you mean by “horrible”…

  18. kkwik16 says:

@atom1cs Are you kidding me? Evo has shit battery life and the inspire is no different. Also the atrix runs motoblur which is HORRIBLE!!! Even though the atrix has dual core the shitty software isn’t even optimized for them! iPhones are optimized that what makes them SOLID devices. If you think Evo, inspire, or atrix is solid then you need help. Also including the apps what good is customization when your apps are horrible?
    iOS>Android

  19. atom1cs says:

@Goldminer63 welcome to the 21st century, people still talk, but people also have smartphones. I see these devices taking over as our remotes, communication devices, mobile computers, wallets, etc. The future is bright!

  20. atom1cs says:

I gotta say, I was playing around with an HTC EVO today, and I really like the interface, the settings, the options, the customizability, the notification panel (swipe down to see it). The screen on the EVO is 4.3″, while my iPhone 4 is 3.5″. The iPhone needs a bigger screen and better notifications. I am hoping AT&T comes out with a phone similar to the EVO so I can switch.

Perhaps the iPhone 5 will incorporate some of the new features of Android OS which has made it the #1 mobile phone OS

  21. atom1cs says:

@kkwik16 Yes, Apple has 1 phone/model, released each year, it’s solid for the most part aside from the antenna problem. The screen is smaller compared to newer phones such as the Google Android OS based phones: HTC EVO, HTC Inspire, and Motorola Atrix. Android isn’t the company, the company that releases android OS is Google. There are multiple phone manufacturers who make phones that use Android. The EVO, Inspire, and Atrix are DEFINITELY NOT made from cheap parts. Android OS > iOS :(

  22. dangitstwang says:

    @kkwik16 u mad bro?

  23. kkwik16 says:

@dangitstwang Are you that fucking stupid what part doesn’t make sense to you? Apple release one phone a year that just works and is a solid device. Android releases multiple phones made out of cheap parts to compete with apple. Quality over quantity do you get it now or you still confused you fucking retard. Don’t you have something better to do then sit here and troll I don’t remember asking for what you think.

  24. GeorgeKnighton says:

I’d seriously counsel anybody thinking about the Atrix vs iPhone to hold the two devices and play with the two of them at the same time. The “specifications” of the Atrix are not necessarily going to make for a better experience. The iPhone is visibly smoother manipulating Web pages and menus, and photos and video are better on the iPhone. The Atrix *does* win in some areas…but the specifications do not give it an automatic win!

  25. maplestoryroad says:

@liu7 Well obviously, iPhones are only updated once a year while tens of Android devices come out each year. That being said, iPhones are always the best smartphone for some part of the year, but of course being in the quickly advancing world we live in from a technological standpoint, it is bound to lose its title.

  26. dangitstwang says:

@kkwik16 that literally made no fucking sense
we’re talking about phones not what your language teacher says about your essays

  28. Goldminer63 says:

Another “My dick is bigger than your dick” contest. For christ sakes people, buy a phone that suits your needs and call it a day. I saw 5 of kids (about 14-16 years old) at the food court in the mall. They all had these Android/iPhones and were sitting at a table. All of them had their heads down and fingers flailing away on these phones, and not one word was spoken between them for the 20 mins that I was there. What ever happened to conversation?

  30. appdood says:

droid fanboys worship their devices much more then apple fans ever had.

  31. kkwik16 says:

Three words i have for the Android vs iOS war.
    Quality over quantity!

  32. SwaneyM says:

@TheTrueTechCentury: You should really work on trying to throw in more metaphors and being more ambiguous in your future posts. I totally get what you’re saying hahah

  33. nAKNIKia says:

is he blind or something like that?
you obviously see that the iphone loaded angry birds faster
and you can obviously see that the Atrix was lagging while scrolling or zooming in the browser

  34. DaManBearPig says:

    Atrix is fast as hell.

  35. bigG8491 says:

This just shows how good the iphone is it came out like 8 months ago and is still as good as phones that are out now. I just wish they would support flash.
